Overview of Video Assignment

During this assignment we used video authoring software to produce a video that supported a lesson. We had to produce a 3-4 minute educational video that included both visual and audio elements. Visuals could include a variety of digital media: (1) personal video shot from a digital video, (2) photographs taken from a digital camera, (3) web-based digital photographs and pictures that fall within fair use, creative commons, and copyright guidelines. Storyboards were available to help us visualize and plan the instruction. We could choose any topic for the instruction.

Reflection

When I began thinking about how I was going to complete this assignment I was very unsure. I didn't know what topic to do or what I was doing. I quickly decided that the most beneficial way to use a video in my classroom would be to model instruction. We were in the middle of a science unit and I thought what better than to model a science experiment. I thought that I could then play the video in class, stop as needed and replay when appropriate. I became more confident and even excited about the assignment. I set everything up and video taped myself modeling the experiment. I thought the hard part was over. However, transferring the video from the recorder to the computer presented me with a whole new set of problems. I had explored Windows Movie Maker and felt very comfrotable with the software, but I could not get my video to open in the program. After a lot of research as well as trial and error. I found a program on line that allowed me to complete the editing of my video. The only thing I could not put on my video was music, but I will continue to research this for the next video I make to use in my classroom. What a learning experience!
